The Blue Carbon Action Legacy Programme turns the commitments made at The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit into action on Kenya’s coast.
Why it exists
The Global NGO Stakeholders Summit was held in Nairobi from 24 to 26 June 2026. It convened government leaders, development partners, philanthropies, corporate executives, academia, innovators, civil society organisations and community representatives from Kenya, across Africa and beyond.
The Legacy Programme is the first implementation of what was agreed there. It was conceived as the foundation of a long-term programme that joins up ecosystem restoration, community resilience, financial inclusion, youth empowerment and sustainable livelihoods on Kenya’s coast.
Two days on the coast
Day One: zero waste on the shore in Mombasa
The first day is a zero-waste coastal action on a public beach in Mombasa, bringing volunteers, rangers, communities and partners together to keep the shoreline free of waste.
Day Two: mangroves at Mida Creek
The second day restores mangroves at Mida Creek in Kilifi County, working with the Municipality of Mtwapa and the Mida Creek Conservation Community.
The first Blue Carbon Action
The first Blue Carbon Action took place on 2 and 3 October 2026. See the photographs in the gallery.
