Jacinta Gitau
Deputy Director, Land Administration
National Land Commission Kenya
Jacinta Gitau is the Deputy Director of Land Administration at the National Land Commission (NLC) of Kenya, the independent constitutional body mandated to manage public land, investigate historical land injustices, and ensure equitable access to land across the country. In this role, she leads critical field operations that translate Kenya's land governance reforms into tangible, community-level outcomes.
Jacinta has spearheaded National Land Commission verification missions across Kenya's most land-contested regions, including leading NLC teams to Turkana County to verify REREC Mashinani project sites as part of efforts to regularise land ownership and facilitate the issuance of title deeds for communities living on public land. Her hands-on approach to land administration brings credibility and operational depth to a domain central to Kenya's development, peace, and food security.
Her work sits at the intersection of constitutional law, community rights, and sustainable development — navigating complex land tenure issues with both technical precision and sensitivity to the human stakes involved for communities across Kenya's 47 counties.
At the NGO Summit 2026, Jacinta brings the National Land Commission's institutional perspective on land rights, equitable access, and the role that civil society organisations play in advocating for transparent, community-centred land governance — a foundational issue for sustainable development, food security, and conflict prevention across East Africa.
